A huge thank you…..
This year with Covid restrictions, the organizers decided to change tack and organized three events for the Community.
1) Nativity Scene and petting zoo, open day last Saturday, attended by families with young children.
2) Christmas in the Streets, a truck full of musicians and singers, singing Christmas carols, zig zagging through the streets, covering most of Waimate. The truck was led by a steam traction engine and accompanied by a team of volunteers offering Christmas gifts including decorations, cake , chocolate and candy canes. 1000 thousand decorations were specifically designed and made for the event, over 30 Christmas cakes were cut up and distributed.
3) The museum has a professional lighting show until Boxing day, the light show is on the front of the old court house is very spectacular, times from 9-30 to 11pm.
Major sponsors for these events are Mid and South Canterbury community trust, Alpine Energy, Headfords Propagators.
Other local businesses and groups who have contributed to these events have been Kirks Irrigation, Rotary, Red Hot Real Estate, L J Hooker, Waimate New World, Waimate Discounter, Sadlers Service station, Farmlands, The Barn, The Waimate, Rainbow Dairy, Waimate 50.
A big thankyou to the Waimate Christmas in the Square team, Grant Hayman the driver of the truck, Guy Wigley and Alistair Boyes drivers of the steam engine , the volunteers who either played, sang, walked or provided a bbq and logistics, all our sponsors and people who donated goods, and to all those in Waimate who came to their gates , or listened from their houses.

We are so blessed in our community to have an incredible volunteer culture - so many dedicated people who bring these amazing events together - always bringing together people in such a joyful way. Never has it been more important than this year with all of the restrictions because of Covid 19. - Ed
