Plunket is a national not-for-profit organisation and New Zealand's largest provider of support services for the development, health and wellbeing of tamariki and whanau.

Plunket holds sessions in Waimate, these include

• Plunket Nurse: Mondays & alternate Fridays: Home visit and Clinic

• Breastfeeding support: Free mother-to-mother support for breastfeeding mums
  Meet last Thursday of month from 10.30am–12.00 noon at Waimate Parenting Hub, Connect Centre, 108 Queen Street, Waimate.

• Post Natal Adjustment Programme: A programme to support South Canterbury families who are experiencing difficulty/distress in adjusting to parenthood.

• Giving People Support Home Visiting Service: This service is available to all families with a child under 5. We have a group of fantastic volunteers who can support you with a variety of goals for up to 3 months.

Plunket Karitane Family Centre

This facility is located at the Timaru Plunket Hub, 14 Woollcombe Street, Timaru. 

Hours are: Mon, Wed & alternate Tues    9.00am to 4.00pm Appt required if wanting to see Karitane
Thursday                                10.00am to 3.00pm Feeding and Changing only
Friday                                      11.00am to 3.00pm Feeding and Changing only       

 The Family Centre provides a free service, is staffed by trained Karitane who are available to provide info and practical support in following areas (plus a lot more):

-       Behaviour/Sleep         - Nutrition & Feeding
-       Library available        - Maternal post-natal stress
-       Breastfeeding             - Crying/Unsettled babies
-       Special needs             - General parenting
